Katie VanStelle started teaching at Gooden in the fall of 2021. With over 20 years of teaching experience, she has taught primarily in third and fourth grades. She has also taught at the university level and served as a substitute teacher in various public and private independent schools. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Trinity Christian College and a master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Azusa Pacific University. Originally from Arizona, she has lived in California for over 30 years, except for the three years she spent teaching in China.
A resident of Pasadena, Katie enjoys reading, singing in two choirs, and playing board games. She also plays the piano and loves to hang out with her cat, Koko. Her teaching philosophy centers on teaching the whole person, with equal concern for students’ academic and social-emotional needs. She enjoys empowering students to find and celebrate their strengths. To Ms. VanStelle, the true joy of teaching comes from building relationships with students and their families.
