Ways to Support The Gooden School

Why Give to The Gooden School?

During this, the 40th anniversary of our school’s beginning; we salute the visionary founders and benefactors of The Gooden School.  We stand on their shoulders and those of the many generous friends who, through the years since, have contributed to the school’s growth in service and excellence.  Making Gooden one of your family’s philanthropic priorities now and in the future will ensure that this generation’s children as well as those attending far into the future will benefit from the excellent education, which Gooden provides.

Ways of Giving

There are a variety of ways to support The Gooden School.  All gifts, no matter the size, are important and welcome.

eScrip, Ralphs, and Target scrip are no-cost fundraisers that automatically provide donations to The Gooden School. Last year, we received $4,300 in donations from these programs. These scrip program donations help the school fund special events that enhance our children’s overall experience. It is our goal this year to triple last year’s number. Giving a gift of appreciated stock typically offers tax-saving by avoiding the capital gains tax on the increase in value of a stock and providing an income tax deduction for the full market value of the stock at the time the gift is given.  For further information, contact Mrs. Dunlap

There are many employers who will match their employees’ donations.  This avenue often provides a way to leverage (sometimes doubling) your donationClick Here  to see a list of Employers who match employee gifts.

In addition to providing volunteer support to the school and parent education opportunities to the community, the GFA supports various school events, such as International Theme Day, Teas, all-school and grade level community coffees, which foster the close community that exists at Gooden.  The GFA also sponsors several fund-raisers (spirit wear and used uniform sales, adult and family nights, etc.) The Spring Gala and Country Fair alternate bi-annually as our main fundraisers, which contribute substantially to the school’s budget.

The Annual Fund is The Gooden School’s annual campaign to raise additional funding for the operating budget.  As is true of all independent schools, the gap between the various costs of operating the school and income from tuition and fees is substantial.  The Annual Fund helps to close this gap.  Gifts to the Annual Fund touch all aspects of the school program.  They currently represent approximately 10% of the overall  operating budget.  It is our hope and expectation that every Gooden family will join the Board of Trustee, Faculty and Staff in contributing to the Annual Fund so that we can achieve our goal of 100% participation.

Funds from planned gifts, such as bequests or charitable trusts, will be added to an endowment fund, which the school is in the midst of creating.  The establishment of an endowment will help to guarantee that The Gooden School will be able to serve the community for generations to come.  Watch for more information.

This summer, The Gooden School Board of Trustees made the bold decision to upgrade our K-3 classrooms and to vastly expand our technology program.  Funds for these two major initiatives were taken from reserves, which have been carefully accumulated over many years.  There are additional initiatives that the Trustees are planning for, including the renovation of the Edwards Building, which houses our Music and GASP (afterschool) programs and an up-grade of the Barber House, where our administrative offices reside.  In this regard, we are beginning to plan for a major capital campaign.  Watch for more information.
